Toyota Service Intervals at Downtown Toyota
Owning a car is great until you look at the maintenance manual and realize there are about a thousand moving parts that all seem to need attention at different times. You’re left asking, “What needs to happen first?” or “Am I over-servicing my car, or worse, ignoring something critical?” At Downtown Toyota, we don’t think service should be a guessing experience for our customers. That’s why our service team has mapped the maintenance schedule out into simple steps below so you know what your Toyota needs and when. Continue reading to check out the three straightforward service tiers provided by Downtown Toyota and to book yours in Toronto.
Toyota Service #1
Service #1 is your Toyota’s first line of defense to keep it running the way it should. It covers a thorough inspection of key components, routine fluid top-ups, and basic maintenance tasks that catch small issues and help keep most parts of your Toyota fresh.
Recommended Intervals: First at 8,000 km, and then every 16,000 km or once a year, whichever comes first.
Service Includes:
- Check the driver’s floor mat installation.
- Inspect all lights and horn to make sure they work properly.
- Inspect wiper blades, linkage, and washers for proper operation.
- Check and record tire tread depth and examine tires for damage or uneven wear.
- Remove wheels and visually inspect brake pads, calipers, rotors, brake lines, and hoses.
- Rotate tires (for same-size wheels, front and rear).
- Remove and inspect cabin air filter and engine air filter.
- Inspect for leaks where applicable: engine oil, brake fluid, engine coolant, intercooler coolant, inverter coolant, power steering fluid, transmission/transaxle fluid, differential fluid, transfer case fluid, and top up windshield washer fluid.
- Visually inspect the Hybrid Battery Cooling Intake Filter (if equipped) and clean if needed.
- Record inspection results, measurements, and component conditions on the inspection form or repair order.
- Reset the Maintenance Reminder Light or system.
Toyota Service #2
If Service #1 is the routine check-up, Service #2 is the thorough physical. This is where we go beyond the basics to look at the systems that keep your Toyota stable. We pay extra attention to the parts that handle the friction of daily driving, such as steering, suspension, and exhaust, to make sure everything is still tight to factory specs.
Recommended Intervals: First Service #2 occurs at 16,000 km. After that, it slots into your schedule every 32,000 km (or 2 years).
Service Includes:
- All Service #1 tasks, and
- Replace engine oil and filter.
- Inspect exhaust system for leaks, damage, or broken hangers.
- Check steering gear, linkage, and shock absorbers for looseness, damage, or leakage
- Inspect ball joints, dust covers, driveshafts, and chassis nuts & bolts for looseness or damage.
- Inspect differential and transfer case vents for obstruction.
- Visually inspect drive belts.
- Lubricate locks, latches, and hinges.
Toyota Service #3
While the first two services focus on inspections and keeping things fresh, Service #3 is a deep-reaching maintenance tier where we take things apart to make sure they keep working like new.
Recommended Intervals: First Service #3 happens at 32,000 km. After that, it becomes a major milestone in your schedule every 32,000 km (or 2 years).
Service Includes:
- All tasks from Service #2 and Service #3, and
- Inspect brake lines and hoses, remove brake calipers and/or drums, and measure brake rotors/drums and pads/shoes.
- Inspect engine oil cooler lines and automatic transmission cooler lines (if equipped) for leaks, looseness, or damage.
- Inspect fuel system for leaks or damage, including fuel tank bands, fuel tank cap gasket, vapor vent system hoses, fuel lines, and connections.
- Inspect valve clearance.
- Perform a 12-volt battery health check.
Please keep in mind that the schedule above represents the standard or overall recommended service intervals, and your specific Toyota may require different maintenance depending on your driving habits, conditions, or model.
