Tire Swap in Toronto, ON

New Season, New Tires

When the temperature begins to change, it’s time to start considering cycling your seasonal tires again. What many people may not realize is that there are actually two options when it comes to switching tires – a changeover, or a swap. Join the team here at Downtown Toyota as we explain the difference between them.

Tire Changeover

Your first option when it comes to switching on or off the winter tires is a changeover. A changeover only replaces the rubber tires on your vehicle, leaving the existing wheels in place. As you only need to purchase a second set of tires, this is a less expensive option, at least initially. Note, though, changeovers are more time-consuming, and that means more costly to perform, which may start to offset that initially lower cost within just a couple years.

Tire Swap

The second option is a tire swap, which removes and replaces both the wheels and tires from your vehicle. This is a more expensive option up-front, as you’ll be buying a second set of wheels and tires both, but in the long run it will save you. If you’ve ever seen crews swap out race car wheels, you know how quick it is. Tire swaps take less time, and so cost less year to  year.
