Clean Hybrid Technology
Hybrid technology offers cleaner emissions, increased fuel efficiency, and surprising power. Meet the Toyota hybrid powertrain: the most proven and advanced on the planet.Toyota is proud to be the world leader in hybrid power, offering more hybrid and plug-in hybrid models than any other manufacturer and always working to perfect new innovations in cleaner, mobile power.
Our Full Hybrid Lineup
Toyota is the world leader in hybrid power
More than two decades ago, Toyota introduced the world’s first mass-produced hybrid electric vehicle. That vehicle — the Prius — is still going strong in its fourth generation, and it has since been joined by several other hybrid and plug-in hybrid models in the Toyota lineup. Toyota’s patented hybrid technology gives an unmatched combination of performance, efficiency, and low emissions, offering more hybrids than any other carmaker.
Toyota Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles
As Toyota continues to move toward an electrified future, we expanded our hybrid lineup to include more plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, like the Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime. PHEVs operate similarly to regular hybrid vehicles, but come with the option of being plugged in to recharge. That means they have a longer all-electric driving range than their hybrid cousins.
Both the Prius Prime and RAV4 Prime can reach up to 135 km/h in EV Mode.*
*EV Mode range at top highway speed of 135km/hr is only available for a very limited distance (significantly lower than the EV commuting range of 40km for Prius Prime and 68km for RAV4 Prime) and is dependent upon many factors, including charging practice, driving style, driving speed, road/traffic conditions, outside temperature, air conditioning control levels, payload/cargo weight, proper tire pressure, vehicle maintenance and battery age

Toyota hybrids give you both power and powerfully efficient performance.
That's because Toyota's revolutionary Hybrid Synergy Drive can operate in electric mode only, gas mode only, or a seamless combination of the two. A power-split device and sophisticated energy management system constantly monitor driving conditions and seamlessly manage power flows. Regenerative braking helps the battery regain charge every time you decelerate, effectively recycling energy for later use. The result is fantastic fuel efficiency without sacrificing performance.

Starting Up
Press the Power Button and go — quickly and silently. In most conditions, at vehicle start-up only, the electric motor is engaged, saving fuel and delivering instant torque, while producing zero emissions.
No Additional Maintenance Required
You might assume that with more technology comes more repairs and maintenance, but that isn’t true. Toyota’s electrified vehicles follow the same maintenance schedule as their gas counterparts and typically require fewer repairs as they age. That’s because, in a Toyota hybrid, the engines are off some of the time, reducing wear and tear. Additionally, the regenerative brakes save pad and rotor life and there is no transmission fluid under load. Finally, there are no starters, alternators or belts to be replaced. All of this can reduce the need for maintenance over time.
More Electric Range
Toyota’s plug-in hybrid vehicles can go further in electric-only mode thanks to their ability to be plugged in to recharge. The Prius Prime can go 1,035 km with a full tank of gas and full electric charge, while the RAV4 Prime can go 979 km.**
Smaller Carbon Footprint
Since the Prius debuted in 1997, Toyota has sold more than 15 million hybrid vehicles in 80 countries around the world, preventing over 94 million tons of CO2 emissions globally in that time.
A Battery For Life
Did you know that over 98 percent of the hybrid electric vehicles we've sold in Canada since 2001 have never had their original battery replaced? That's because Toyota hybrid batteries are designed to last the life of the vehicle. They're also backed by a 10-year/240,000-km warranty, whichever comes first.
Reuse and Recycle
The electrified battery that powers your Toyota hybrid or plug-in hybrid can be dismantled and repurposed when it reaches the end of its life, so you can feel good about not adding more waste to the planet.
Ready for Winter
Worried that your Toyota hybrid electric battery isn’t up for cold Canadian winters? Luckily for you, Toyota has tested the batteries extensively in cold weather, so you can rest assured that you won’t have any performance issues as the temperatures drop.
Built with Safety in Mind
All Toyota HEVs and PHEVs come with Toyota Safety Sense™ as a standard feature. TSS is an advanced suite of safety features designed to make the road a safer place. Additionally, all Toyota HEVs and PHEVs have been tested and adhere to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
